With reference to the letter from this Department of the 29th Lecerber relative to the Texas

Cil Company, I am directed by sr. Secretary Bonar Law to inform you that the Governor of Hong Kong reports that kr. Cheetham has resigned, his post. Sir F.H. May states that he is prepared to recognise Mesare. Reies and Company provided that they are Appointed tope your agents at both Hong Kong and Canton.

2. I am to suggest that if you are prepared to appoint leaars keiss and Company accordingly, you should come to terms with them as quickly as possible and oœmunicate the fact of your agreement to the Governor in order that ke my consider the desirabili of issuing the public notification referred to in th letter from this Department of the 29th December.
